Adam Latto
This beautiful retrospective show of oil paintings, watercolours and drawings is consistently good through every decade. The town motto of Musselburgh since 1332 has been Honesty. And honesty runs through all Adam’s work. It is in the tenderness of the painting of The Old Cottage at Burnmouth, now long gone, and in the dourness of the Tolbooth at Musselburgh lightened by the two pedestrians in their polychromatic suits. A purple road, a pink wall or a quirky touch on a building make us look twice, both at the painting and later at the building itself. We realise that often in these gloomy winter days colours shine brighter than they do in the sunshine.

We had a mini show in the foyer as part of the effort to raise interest and money for the necessary repair work to save the Union Chain Bridge. These amazing images illustrate the technique of making proggy mats.
