March
In the spring of 2017 we held a massive exhibition: The Tweed and Salmon Fishing. It was a huge success and brought visitors to the gallery who might never have come to the previous shows.
This most ancient of skills can still be watched on the River Tweed between the Jacobean stone bridge and the point at which the mighty river joins the sea. Men have fished like this since Biblical times and still do in many other parts of the world. Perhaps, when all is said and done, it is simply the best way to do the job.
Jim and Connie Walker listening somewhat sceptically to, yes, a fishing story from Keyhole,
This is the beautiful Net Boat which Keyhole and Jo brought for us before the show opened and carefully set up all the nets and ropes.
This splendid fisherman looked as though he could have steared a Viking longboat on his own.
There was much laughter and a few tears as people found their relations in all sorts of poses and weather. But I do not know whether this visitor found himself, his father or his grandfather.
Andy is an inveterate mudlark and has proved endlessly that the river yields up more than fish.. Almost all the women were able to identify at least one style amongst the fragments of china.
May
Border Artists
From the 6th May until the 2nd June works by national and international artists from across the Borders area were brought together in an exhibition showcasing some of the best original fine art, illustration, assemblage, abstract and contemporary artworks in the UK.
Thank you Scott for curating and hanging such a beautiful show. And thank you to the artists for being so supportive.

The Bruce
Robert the Bruce came to Berwick to be filmed with some splendid horsemen. Alas, they were pretending that the bridge was London Bridge and the quayside was the Fish Quqy in Glasgow. .
Filming for "The Outlaw King"
Charles Nasmyth Exhibition
Charles' drawings and excellent lecture brightened an October week as the dark evenings approached.
November
Anna Turnbull
Anna's amazing models in willow took over the Watchtower for a weekend. The three standing on the stage were planning an escape route while the horse and the deer in the front garden were making the most of their freedom.
But only the White Rabbit made his escape through the front gate because he had been here before and had appeared in this year's Open Show. And he was almost the last to leave before my new plans took over.
